Apply for a Grant

If you’d like to apply for a grant or if you’d like to nominate someone for one, the process is simple. Just send us a two-page essay about yourself, focusing on your public service work and how you’ll use the grant. Tell us about your goals. Tell us about how being the child of a first responder has affected you. Tell us about your first responder parent and the sacrifices that they’ve made.

Who is eligible? The children of anyone in Alameda County, California, who has been a first responder in that county for two years, and who is still a first responder in that county.

Applications are due by each November 30. We will let successful applicants know by January 31 of each year. 

Please understand that in the early years of this new Foundation, we expect that there will be many more applicants than there are grant funds. We hope that community support will make this Foundation self-sustaining and that, at some point, more grants will be possible. But as Mitch often said, “you gotta start somewhere.” We’re starting here.
